Despite new overnight evacuation orders in Brentwood and parts of the San Fernando Valley, firefighters have made notable progress in containing the Eaton and Palisades fires.

As of Saturday morning, containment for the Eaton fire has increased to 15%, while the Palisades fire is now 11% contained. This marks significant improvement from Friday when containment stood at 3% for the Eaton fire and 8% for the Palisades fire.

Rents likely to balloon in wake of L.A. wildfires, experts say

Wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles are expected to deepen the region's housing affordability crisis, both immediately and in the long term, according to housing analysts and advocates.

Rental prices are projected to rise, particularly in areas near the epicenters of the massive fires in Pacific Palisades and Altadena. Homeowners looking to rebuild will encounter fierce competition for contractors, while the already fragile home insurance market may drive up costs for all Angelenos.

Previously focused on police pursuits, crimes in progress, and the occasional building fire, “scanner” accounts on X have seen a surge in popularity over the past week.

As wildfires devastated vast areas of Los Angeles County, these accounts—run by individuals who closely monitor police and fire radio communications and distill the information into concise, accessible posts—have become a vital source of real-time updates for the public.
