FBI says the suspect in the deadly New Orleans truck attack acted alone
The FBI announced Thursday that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the driver of the pickup truck involved in the New Year's Day attack in New Orleans, acted alone. The incident left at least 14 dead and dozens injured. Authorities assured the public that there is no ongoing threat in the Bourbon Street area.
“We have no evidence at this time to suggest that anyone else was involved in this attack,” said Christopher Raia, the FBI’s Deputy Assistant Director for the Counterterrorism Division, during a press conference.
Raia stated that investigators are analyzing five electronic devices — three cellphones and two laptops — and so far, there is "no evidence from call records, device data, interviews, or system checks indicating that Jabbar received assistance in carrying out the attack."
This marks a shift from the FBI's initial assessment on Wednesday, which suggested it was likely that Jabbar had not acted alone. At the time, the agency was actively seeking information about potential accomplices.
"Today, we have a much clearer understanding and greater confidence in the situation compared to just 24 hours ago," Raia said during Thursday's press briefing.
