USA News: Mystery Drone Sightings Reported in New York; Donald Trump Responds
Mysterious drone sightings have sparked intrigue and concern in New York, marking the latest chapter in a series of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) encounters across the country. Authorities and experts remain puzzled as sightings increase, prompting heightened investigations.
Former President Donald Trump has weighed in on the issue, calling for transparency and further government scrutiny of these events. In a brief statement, Trump expressed curiosity, while urging officials to prioritize national security in light of the unexplained sightings.
Stay tuned as more details emerge about this developing story.
Dozens of drone sightings have been reported across New Jersey since November 18, according to local authorities.
The initial reports came from areas near the Raritan River, which feeds into the Round Valley Reservoir, New Jersey's largest water source, as per the Associated Press. These sightings quickly spread to other parts of the state, including its coastal regions.
Notably, some drones were spotted near the Picatinny Arsenal, a sensitive military research facility, and close to President-elect Donald Trump's golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey.
In nearby New York City, several drones were reported flying over the Bronx on December 12, according to a police official who spoke to CBS News. Officers responding to the incident saw drones in the sky, but the devices vanished shortly after being detected. Other parts of New York State have also reported drone activity, confirmed by the New York State Police.
Connecticut authorities have reported "suspicious drone activity" in various locations, prompting the deployment of a drone detection system in Groton and New London.
The phenomenon extends beyond these states. In Maryland, former Republican Governor Larry Hogan reported seeing "dozens" of drones over his Davidsonville residence, roughly 25 miles from Washington, D.C. He voiced public frustration over the lack of transparency regarding these sightings, stating, "The public is growing increasingly concerned and frustrated with the dismissive attitude of the federal government."
Unidentified drones have also been observed at three U.S. Air Force bases in the UK: RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, and RAF Feltwell. UK defense sources suggested the possibility of a "state actor" being involved.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported on mysterious drones flying near U.S. military facilities in Virginia for 17 consecutive days in October.
What Have Investigators Said About the Drones?
Officials from several U.S. agencies have attempted to ease public concerns, emphasizing that there is no current evidence suggesting a foreign actor or a national security threat.
An FBI official remarked, "I think there has been a slight overreaction."
While authorities have reassured the public that investigations are ongoing, they also reiterated, "We don't have any current evidence that there's a threat to public safety," according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Despite these assurances, the growing number of sightings and their proximity to sensitive locations have left many demanding greater transparency and action.
