President Trump begins immigration crackdown, declares national emergency

On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump initiated a series of executive actions aimed at overhauling U.S. immigration policies and strengthening border security. Central to these measures was the signing of an executive order terminating birthright citizenship for children born in the United States to undocumented immigrants, a move anticipated to face significant legal challenges due to its conflict with the 14th Amendment

In conjunction with this, President Trump declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border, enabling the reallocation of military resources for the construction of additional border barriers and the deployment of federal troops to assist in curbing illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and human smuggling.
